The Foss Miester!

Day 1 of the Enterpreneurship and Professional Practice module today. It was a good start too, as straight talking media mogul Steve Fossey came in for a lecture.

Steve talked to us about his life in media, starting with his first job at the BBC. This sounded like a good move for someone starting out as the 'BeeB' provides loads of training, and has a really good work ethic and reputation.

After spending 3 years with the BBC Steve felt it was time to move on and started putting his finger into many different pies. His Guerilla Televison venture allows public authoring of short video/animation/documentaries to be displayed for the world to see . This is a non-profit organisation so Steve works teaching and lecturing to pay the bills.

The talk was really informative and enjoyable, and I know that it will be a great help when/if I make it into the 'real-world'.

Eh essay!

Lit review, lit review, where for art thou lit review? It's in the registry now, but it was touch and go.

I'm not blaming computers. I'm not blaming traffic. I'm blaming my lazy ass.

Sometimes I find it really difficult to get motivated to work, which is really stupid because I love what we're doing and I normally enjoy what I'm writing about, but when I hear the word 'WORK' I just feel terrible. I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on that? Maybe I should?
Nah, I can't be arsed!

Anywho, I have written my Lit Review on, you've guessed it, Locative Media!

Here it is: Literature Review of Locative Media.

While I've been reading around the subject I've learnt a great deal which will hopefully help with my final project. If anyone hasn't caught the LM bug yet, here are a few sites to wet you're appetite.

Socialite - Sharing locative based information with friends and beyond.
Locative Media - General index of interesting sites.
Geocaching - An amazing treasure hunt type game. (People who share nothing but location interacting, isn't it wonderful!)

Late night - Early morning.

First off, I'm knackered. I was working on the essay until 5am this morning, and now I'm wrecked.

The title of the piece was "How Scale is Integral to the Process of Leaving and Receiving Messages and How Technology Relates This", which sounds complicated but I tried to break it down as simply as possible.

With use of loads of examples I learned that scale can be conquered if the tools we use to leave and receive messages can accommodate this. I also learned about the GALILEO project which will launch 60 GPS satellites into low-orbit by 2008, which will enable GPS accuracy of up to 1m. Imagine you could track or view any object with a receiver, anywhere in the world! Freaky!
If you would like to read it, here it is Scale assignment.

I also made my presentation today, which I think went quite well. If anyone liked the video about Socialight you can find it here.

All my love
Steve
